What is BEECK?

In 1894, the company founder Ludwig Beeck established his business in Breslau with the development and production of pure active silicification mineral paints based on (potassium silicate) water glass. He achieved inseparable bonding between the coating and microporous substrates with BEECK Pure Crystalline Finish, a mineral paint system particularly suited for exterior and interior areas on listed important historical structures as well as other valuable historical buildings. These original formulae are still used today for the conservation of built heritage. BEECK’s paint systems are valued today for their impressively large color diversity and their incredible durability.

During the construction boom of the 1950’s and 1960’s a new paint product category was introduced, synthetic resin emulsion paint, which brought hard times for a resolute mineral paint manufacturer. Mineral paints were nearly forgotten and the improper use of synthetic resins on porous mineral building materials caused an increase of structural damage on many buildings.

Despite the clear trend towards synthetic resin emulsion paints, BEECK’schen Farbwerke remained true to the development and production of pure, natural coating systems. Based on its experience with pure mineral paints made of lime and water glass, the company invested in developing pure plant-based paints. The resulting AGLAIA Natural Paints brand created in 1968 has rounded off the BEECK product portfolio.

The following owner, Gerhard Osterle, a specialist in mineral and natural paints, also dedicated himself to their continued development. With the construction of a new production facility in 1972 in Laichingen, in the Swabian Alps region of Germany, he invested in modern machines, an in-house research and application laboratory with outstanding specialists. These remarkable individuals are responsible for carrying the company traditions and legacy forward for the next generation.

The building traditions and practices have changed in the past decades; with these changes have come new requirements for high quality and innovative modern coating materials. Since the company was founded, continuous research and development has been underway using natural raw materials such as beeswax, linseed oil, dammar and pure casein. This development is the reason BEECK is able to fulfill the highest standards today in its wide range of historic and innovating paint products. BEECK remains inspired by history to meet today’s challenges and dedicated to preservation for future generations.

Service
Quality in materials, substrates and application are prerequisites for a coating to become what it should be – a success for skilled trades workers, owners or developers and designers. BEECK offers its wide range of services for the success of the customer, from competent substrate evaluation and preparation recommendations to detailed technical specifications and estimations. We are committed to success for everyone involved in the project.

Built heritage conservation
BEECK has stood for top quality potassium silicate (water glass) and lime paints suited for use in historical building restoration for more than 120 years. Proven on critical substrates of listed buildings where synthetic resin bonded systems frequently fail.

Economic efficiency
The aesthetic character, the play of colors and the lightfastness of the pure mineral pigmentation enhance the status of each building for many decades. The unsurpassed durability of BEECK Mineral Paints makes their use and maintenance friendly lifecycle very economical.

Building physics
BEECK’s Silicate and Lime coatings have ideal open porosity, this breathability is extremely valuable in building physics terms. Thanks to the bonding process and coating structure, they form an inseparable mineral unit with the substrate that will not flake or peel like a vapor-tight, high-tension, film forming paint. The coating structure with its open porosity helps keep the substrate dry while also ensuring an ideal natural moisture balance, creating a healthy wall system and healthy living environments. The high alkalinity of the coatings has a natural mold resistant and bactericidal effect. Free from solvents, plasticizers, biocides and preservatives, they fulfill the strictest building and room air hygiene requirements.

Innovation
The advantages of mineral coatings are not limited to use on traditional materials or historic buildings, it is now possible for use on composite materials and building components in modern construction as well. BEECK also has a wide range of primers which open up their use to many other substrates. Our chemists and engineers are continuously working on innovative solutions for today’s building challenges.

Aesthetics
The natural mineral matt aesthetic of BEECK coatings offer an unsurpassed attractive appearance for any building, from historic to modern. Traditional coating materials, such as silicate paints and lime wash paints, are especially compatible with historically valuable wall building materials such as air-lime plaster, clay or loam and natural stone. Reversible coatings and casein paints, with their vital character and blaze of color, are also firmly anchored in restoration and church painting. They lend every listed building a very special aura in aesthetic, compatibility, performance and historic terms.

Ecology
Pure mineral paints from natural raw mineral materials are completely sustainable and eco-friendly. Free from solvents, plasticizers and biocides, they enable a healthy living environment.
